HOW TO: Download YouTubes (& other videos)

leave a comment »

Woah, early morning post.

Everybody loves YouTube, right? Course they do. Wouldn’t it be great if you could take your favourite YouTube videos with you, introducing them to all your friends and showing them the local sights? “Wait!”, I hear you say. “You big silly Mr. Grumble. You can already download YouTube videos through a variety of methods into the .flv format. It’s just a matter of converting them.” Indeed you can. However, surely you have realised as you stated that badly punctuated sentence, that this is a huge inconvenience to the majority of video lovers out their there.

However, light is at the end of the tunnel. The light comes from an unknown source (God?) but the messenger, Phil Markham, has shown us the way to a better life.

Disclaimer: Whilst downloading videos from YouTube (or a similar website) is not illegal, downloading copyrighted or protected content is. I will not be held responsible for the actions of my readers or the consequences of those actions.

Step 1: Get the URL

YouTube URL Box

YouTube makes it nice and easy for you, providing a healthy URL box next to the video. Within it lies a code- copy it. You’ll be needing it shortly. Remember! Other video websites may not make the job of collecting the URL as simple.

Step 2: It’s morphing time!

FLV Online Converter

Got the URL? Well done. Now, head on over to FLV Online Converter. It does exactly what it says on the tin, takes the URL of a .flv video and converts it into either .avi, .mov, .mp4, .3gp or .mp3 (audio only). Simply paste the URL you copied earlier into the provided text box, choose the format you want and click Start. Keep an eye on the Process Status, as it’ll tell you how far along the process is. Remember! Whatever you do, do not close or leave the page.

Step 3: Download the converted file

It really is that easy! Once converted, a window will appear allowing you to download the file to your computer. Remember! Choose an appropriate file name, and make sure you save it in a place where you know you’ll be able to find it again.

Again, if you have any problems- fell free to drop me an e-mail and I’ll do my best to help you out. Please remember, despite what I occasionally imply, I am not God.

Vid Of The Day x2:

Taken from The Chaser’s War On Everything, ‘Al Kyder’ and ‘Terry Wrist’ attempt to board a domestic flight. Click here to see the result.

Yet another case of shameless self-promotion, though this video was not put together by me. Phil Markham (y’know, Sakuranbo-man), you’re a genuis.
